Common Uses
Chew leaves for fresh breath. Use in tea or as a garnish for foods. May stimulate the appetite, reduce flatulence and fluid retention. Sometimes taken to normalize menstrual flow.

Locating and Handling
Purchase fresh or dried at grocery store. Easy to grow indoors or out. Seeds need to be kept very moist and warm to start.

Caution
May be toxic in large amounts. Should be avoided during pregnancy.

"MEDICAL VIRTUES -- The root is said to be diuretic, and decoctions of it are often uses in cases of gravel, and where there is a scarcity or difficulty in passing water. The seeds are slightly aromatic, and hence carminative; but the whole plant merits rather to be mentioned as a culinary than a medicinal plant."
