Early Herbal Notes

DESCRIPTION -- This is not a lofty tree, and divides into large branches. The leaves are large, entire, and stand upon short footstalks. The flowers terminate the branches. The colour of the petals is blue. The pericarp is one-celled, umbilicated, and terminated by the indurated converging calyx. The seed is a large oval berry.

MEDICAL USE -- Cloves, considered as medicines, are very hot stimulating aromatics, and possess in an eminent degree the general virtues of substances of this class.
